Range and Consumption

A class A tire creates roughly a 7.5 percent efficiency difference per 100 kilometers compared to class E, quietly determining your electric vehicle's range.
How Much Does Tire Selection Affect an Electric Vehicle's Range?
Deniz Erkan16 October 2026

Tire selection on an electric vehicle is a concrete factor that typically changes range by between 3% and 10% ; incorrect pressure, high rolling resistance, or a heavy-sized tire set will push you toward the upper end of this range, while the right c…

An electric vehicle battery loses an average of two percent of its capacity each year; the low range you see on a winter morning is only a temporary estimate.
How Much Does Range Decrease as the Battery Ages?
Deniz Erkan15 October 2026

An electric vehicle's battery loses an average of between 1.8% and 2.3% per year in capacity over the years; this means that after roughly 8 years, the battery retains just over 80% of its original capacity. Range loss should not be confused with the…

Stop-and-go traffic is a friend, not an enemy, for electric vehicles; while regenerative braking recovers one-fifth of the lost energy, the constant highway speed succumbs to aerodynamic drag.
Why Does It Use Less Fuel in the City? The Difference Between City and Long-Distance Consumption
Deniz Erkan15 October 2026

Electric vehicles consume less in the city because in stop-and-go traffic they recover energy through regenerative braking the moment they slow down, and at low speeds air resistance stays at a minimum level. On the highway, braking rarely happens, a…

In 2026, good consumption for a compact electric vehicle is 16 kWh/100 km; below 14 means efficient, while above 20 signals a heavy body.
What Is a Good kWh/100 km Figure? Reading Your Electric Vehicle's Consumption
Deniz Erkan14 October 2026

Short answer: as of 2026, in real-world use, consumption of around 16 kWh/100 km is good for a compact electric vehicle, below 14 kWh is efficient, and above 20 kWh is generally considered a sign of a large and heavy body. This figure shows how much …

The figures showing that range anxiety usually stands in our minds rather than in front of us have become measurable through the 7-20% difference between laboratory and real-world range.
Is Range Anxiety a Real Problem, or a Mindset?
Deniz Erkan13 October 2026

Range anxiety is the fear of an electric vehicle's charge running out before reaching a destination; in daily use it is mostly a cognitive bias carried over from gasoline car habits rather than data. However, on long trips and in winter conditions it…

An electric vehicle with a range of 130 is losing a third of its range to the wind; because aerodynamic drag grows quadratically with speed.
110 or 130 on the Highway? How Speed Affects EV Range?
Deniz Erkan12 October 2026

The short answer to the question of whether you should drive at 110 or 130 km/h in an electric vehicle on the highway: your speed choice is what truly determines your range, and measurements show that the most efficient long-distance band is 90-110 k…

A resistive heater barely drains the battery at all; the real winter test of an electric vehicle lies in how the cabin is heated.
Cold in Winter, Air Conditioning in Summer: How Many Kilometers of Range Melts Away?
Deniz Erkan12 October 2026

In electric vehicles, cold winter weather typically reduces range by 20-35% ; in summer heat, however, air conditioning-related loss remains in most cases only around 5% . What determines the difference is not the temperature itself, but how the cabi…

Charging planning and efficient driving techniques are the key to eliminating range anxiety on long journeys with an electric vehicle.
Charging Planning and Efficient Driving for Electric Vehicles on Long Journeys
Deniz Erkan11 October 2026

Driving long distances in an electric vehicle requires replacing the familiar gas-station "fill-up and go" habit with two simple calculations: your vehicle's real range under the actual trip conditions and the charging points along your route. A driv…

At low temperatures, an electric vehicle's range can melt away by up to 40%; the WLTP figure is not a guarantee, but merely a laboratory reference.
The Differences Between WLTP and Real-World Range
Deniz Erkan11 October 2026

The WLTP value is not a guarantee of an electric vehicle's real-world range, but a comparison reference measured under standard laboratory conditions. In real-world use, range is typically 10-20% lower; at low temperatures this loss can exceed 40%. T…

One of the most important habits my profession as a mechanical engineer has given me is looking not only at a system's outcome, but also at how and why it works. My interest in automobiles is also fueled by this perspective. For me, a car is not just design, performance, or comfort; it is a holistic system where mechanics, electronics, software, and engineering come together.

Over time, I combined my engineering background with software development. The intersection of these two fields has allowed me to look at modern automobiles from a more integrated perspective. I follow the world of automobiles, from engines and suspension to driver assistance systems and software technologies, through the eyes of both an engineer and a car enthusiast.

My aim at Otomobilgi.com is to explain technical subjects in a language that preserves engineering accuracy and keeps curiosity about cars alive, without drowning them in unnecessary complexity. Because for me, a good car is not merely beautiful or fast; it is a special work that conveys design, technology, and driving character as a whole.
