Electric Vehicle Ownership

Since the battery is the main factor determining the price of an electric car, the document certifying its health is your strongest card at the negotiating table.
How Does the Transfer Process Work When Selling Your Electric Car?
Deniz Erkan17 October 2026

When selling your electric car, the transfer proceeds along three axes, unlike a gasoline vehicle: the sale transaction at the notary, documenting the battery's health, and transferring the charging infrastructure to the buyer. The backbone of the pr…

As long as the battery ages normally, the warranty does not come into play; the real deciding factor is whether the capacity has dropped below the 70 percent threshold.
The Fine Print in EV Battery Warranties: What's Covered and What's Not
Deniz Erkan17 October 2026

Electric vehicle battery warranty is, typically, 8 years or 160,000 km a commitment to repair or replace the battery if its original capacity drops below 70% or if a material or workmanship defect emerges. In other words, if your battery degrades gra…

Preparing for a range that is 10 to 20 percent below the highway speed figure is the most important skill of long-distance driving in an electric vehicle.
First Long Trip in an Electric Car: Planning Breaks and Real Range
Deniz Erkan16 October 2026

On your first long trip in an electric car, the most critical skill is break planning that accounts for real-world range, not the catalog range: Preparing for 10–20% less range than advertised at highway speeds, applying an 20–80% fast-charging strat…

For drivers who can charge at home, the cost per kilometer at 1.16 TL makes a huge difference compared to 9.22 TL; the right question is not which one is cheaper, but which one is cheaper in your situation.
Electric or Gasoline? The Real 5-Year Cost of Ownership
Deniz Erkan15 October 2026

Over a five-year period, an electric car charged at home offers a significantly lower total cost of ownership than its petrol equivalent; however, this advantage depends on three variables: energy cost, the maintenance difference, and second-hand dep…

The real culprit behind winter range loss is not the cold battery; cabin heating drawing from the battery rather than the outlet can erode range by up to 39%.
Winter Charging Tactics for Those Switching from Gasoline to Electric
Deniz Erkan14 October 2026

Electric vehicles can travel up to 10% to 39% less than their official range figures in real winter road conditions; the main source of the loss is not the battery slowing down in the cold, but mostly heating the cabin. This page goes through, one by…

Because the battery alone can reach 40% of the vehicle's value, it determines a different formula for an electric car's comprehensive insurance premium compared to a gasoline car's.
Why Is Comprehensive Insurance for an Electric Car Calculated Differently Than for a Gasoline One?
Deniz Erkan13 October 2026

Comprehensive insurance for an electric car is calculated differently from a gasoline one; because the premium is the product of the three variables the insurer assumes - damage cost, damage frequency, and repair time - and all three of these items d…

With oil, spark plugs, and exhaust gone, an electric car's annual maintenance bill drops to as much as half that of a diesel.
Is Periodic Maintenance on an Electric Car Really Cheap?
Deniz Erkan12 October 2026

No, an electric car doesn't exactly require "no maintenance," but it needs noticeably less maintenance than a gasoline car, and it's usually cheaper. Items like oil, spark plugs, exhaust, and clutch disappear; in their place come lighter but regular …

According to twenty thousand electric vehicle owners, only 2.5 percent of batteries were replaced; the real reason for rapid depreciation is fear, not data.
Why Do Electric Cars Depreciate Faster on the Used Market?
Deniz Erkan12 October 2026

Electric cars are depreciating faster than petrol and hybrid models on the used market, on average; the main reasons are uncertainty about battery health, the very rapid pace of technological renewal, and subsidized new car prices dragging down the u…

Electric Vehicle User Experience: What Awaits You in Your First Year of Owning an EV?
Deniz Erkan11 October 2026

One of the most important habits my profession as a mechanical engineer has given me is looking not only at a system's outcome, but also at how and why it works. My interest in automobiles is also fueled by this perspective. For me, a car is not just design, performance, or comfort; it is a holistic system where mechanics, electronics, software, and engineering come together.

Over time, I combined my engineering background with software development. The intersection of these two fields has allowed me to look at modern automobiles from a more integrated perspective. I follow the world of automobiles, from engines and suspension to driver assistance systems and software technologies, through the eyes of both an engineer and a car enthusiast.

My aim at Otomobilgi.com is to explain technical subjects in a language that preserves engineering accuracy and keeps curiosity about cars alive, without drowning them in unnecessary complexity. Because for me, a good car is not merely beautiful or fast; it is a special work that conveys design, technology, and driving character as a whole.
