It's not the mpg the catalog promises, but the foot that eases off the gas early and shifts to regeneration that decides how much fuel is actually saved.
Driving Habits That Actually Save Money in a Hybrid Car
Deniz Erkan12 October 2026

Real savings in a hybrid car depend not on the catalog mpg figure but on a few concrete techniques you apply at the wheel: lifting off the throttle early to coast into regeneration, using EV mode only at low speeds with a light foot, adjusting your a…

A driver covering 20,000 km per year in the city recovers the price difference of a hybrid within 3-5 years, whereas with highway-heavy low-mileage use this calculation may never break even.
At How Many Kilometers Does a Hybrid Pay for Itself?
Deniz Erkan11 October 2026

How many kilometers it takes for a hybrid to recoup its price premium depends on two simple values: the upfront price difference between the two versions and the actual per-liter savings you make every 100 kilometers. Multiplying these two makes the …

Hybrids, which offer savings of up to 49% in the city, show their true colors on the highway by exceeding even their catalog values.
Do Catalog Values Reflect Real-World Consumption in Hybrids?
Deniz Erkan11 October 2026

The catalog (WLTP) figure for a hybrid car and the consumption you actually see when you stop by the gas station in the afternoon are usually not the same thing; the size of the gap depends entirely on your usage profile. In city driving and stop-and…

One of the most important habits my profession as a mechanical engineer has given me is looking not only at a system's outcome, but also at how and why it works. My interest in automobiles is also fueled by this perspective. For me, a car is not just design, performance, or comfort; it is a holistic system where mechanics, electronics, software, and engineering come together.

Over time, I combined my engineering background with software development. The intersection of these two fields has allowed me to look at modern automobiles from a more integrated perspective. I follow the world of automobiles, from engines and suspension to driver assistance systems and software technologies, through the eyes of both an engineer and a car enthusiast.

My aim at Otomobilgi.com is to explain technical subjects in a language that preserves engineering accuracy and keeps curiosity about cars alive, without drowning them in unnecessary complexity. Because for me, a good car is not merely beautiful or fast; it is a special work that conveys design, technology, and driving character as a whole.
