Let No One Miss It! F2 and F3 Are Coming to the Türkiye GP

According to the calendars announced by the FIA, Istanbul Park will host the Formula 1 Türkiye Grand Prix as well as Formula 2 and Formula 3 on October 1-3, 2027. The three championships meeting on the same track over the same weekend turns this organization returning to Türkiye into something bigger than an ordinary grand prix: spectators get the chance to watch racing at different levels for three days, while young drivers get the opportunity to showcase themselves in front of the F1 teams. In addition, the final round of the F3 calendar falls on Istanbul, meaning the FIA F3 Championship will close its 2027 season in Türkiye.
Highlights
- October 1-3, 2027: F1, F2 and F3 on the same weekend at Istanbul Park.

- The race, organized by TOSFED at Istanbul Park, will be held for the 10th time. will take place.
- Ticket prices for 2027 have not yet been announced as of October 2026.
When is the 2027 Türkiye GP and where does it fall on the calendar?
The weekend will open with practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday, October 1-2; the main race will be run on Sunday, October 3, 2027. This means the Türkiye Grand Prix will be held for the tenth time at Istanbul Park under TOSFED organization. The track will remain on the calendar for five seasons between 2027 and 2031; responsibility for the organization lies with TOSFED under the agreement made with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The bigger picture is also broad: the 2027 F1 calendar covers 24 grands prix and 10 sprint races in 22 countries. The calendars of the support series progress at their own rhythm. F2, in a championship consisting of 14 race weekends, is heading to Istanbul for the first time; after the Baku round, the season will extend to Türkiye and then on to Mexico City. F3 follows a shorter 10-round program, and Istanbul is the championship's final stop. On the F3 side, together with Jeddah and Montreal, Istanbul is one of three new stops the series will visit for the first time in 2027.
Six years will have passed since the last race; the most recent visits were in 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic era. In 2020, Lewis Hamilton won both the race and his seventh championship in Istanbul, while in 2021 the victory went to Valtteri Bottas. In the track's historical ranking, Felipe Massa still stands as the most successful driver with three consecutive victories between 2006 and 2008; Räikkönen, Vettel and Button also won here.
What does the race weekend format change?
Those who have followed this profession for many years know: In the past, a grand prix weekend consisted solely of F1's own program. Support series were occasionally added to the schedule, but in recent years F2 and F3 settling alongside F1 on calendar after calendar has distinctly become the standard. From Türkiye's perspective, this will be a first experience, and having three championships together means getting your money's worth for the ticket. When the gates open, on Saturday and Sunday spectators will be able to watch not only F1 practice sessions or qualifying laps, but also the races of young drivers on their way to F1, all in the same cycle.
The F3 side is particularly interesting. Since the season's final round is in Istanbul, if the championship battle mathematically carries over to the last stage, the Turkish audience will be right in the middle of a title fight. The tension such fate-filled weekends create in the grandstands is not felt in any other race; it would come as no surprise for the organizers to emphasize this point in their promotion.
Progress is also being made on the organizational side. Following the transfer of circuit management to TOSFED, Istanbul Park signaled its readiness by hosting national race weekends and the Türkiye Circuit Championship in 2026. IBB took on logistical support, including the renewal of directional signage on the roads leading to the facility. TOSFED president Eren Üçlertoprağı stated that the circuit has been modernized to F1's highest standards and that F1 was won after about a year and a half of work. The following assessment conveyed at the press conference summarizes the organization's intent:
We must channel Formula 1's leverage effect toward Istanbul. Formula 1 brings in quality tourists.
The size of the interested audience also feeds this expectation: It is stated that F1 has more than 19 million fans in Türkiye, with social media follower engagement exceeding 7.5 million; Instagram followers have increased 25 percent annually and YouTube views 107 percent. On the promotion side, it was announced that TGA's "Catch It If You Can" film has reached more than 300 million views.
What kind of challenge is the Istanbul Park circuit?

This circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, is run counterclockwise and is particularly known for its elevation changes. It is 5.338 kilometers long with a 14-turn layout (6 right, 8 left), and its maximum longitudinal gradient is 8.145 percent. The circuit's signature is the multi-apex, long and fast Turn 8. In drivers' parlance, this turn has been called the circuit's exam for years; those who don't get their speed right find themselves adrift in the second half of the corner.
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Length | 5.338 km |
| Direction | Counterclockwise |
| Number of turns | 14 (6 right, 8 left) |
| Maximum longitudinal gradient | 8.145% |
| Signature turn | Multi-apex, long and fast Turn 8 |
| Location | Tuzla, Akfırat – Istanbul Asian Side |
How the F2 and F3 machines will perform on this profile is also a topic of curiosity. Both series are slower than F1, but the elevation difference and the physical demands of Turn 8 could make Istanbul one of the most challenging stops on the calendar for inexperienced drivers. This is another factor that raises the viewing value of the weekend.
What does the super license path mean for Turkish drivers?
One aspect of the matter that is at least as important as the announcement is the career ladder. The FIA Super Licence is the document that grants its holder the opportunity to race in the F1 World Championship, and drivers earn it by accumulating points through their achievements in the lower categories. The FIA F3 Championship is positioned as one of the final rungs of this ladder; although points cannot be earned in regional formulas, it is seen as a stage that allows drivers to gain continuity.
Holding the F3 season finale in Türkiye offers a concrete advantage to future Turkish drivers: the experience of racing in their own country, within the F1 environment, in front of a high-level audience. A strong performance on a weekend where F1 teams will be present can leave a mark on a young driver's career. This assessment also aligns with how the series itself was designed as a path to F1.
That said, to be honest, no Turkish driver has been reported as being on the F2 or F3 grid by name for 2027. For this reason, it would be wrong to present this opportunity today as a guaranteed takeaway. There are examples showing that alongside the strict rules of the super license system, there is also flexibility: the FIA had exceptionally approved the F1 super license application made by Red Bull's F2 driver Arvid Lindblad. In other words, the system is not merely a points-based, predictable ladder; in cases of extraordinary performance, it can also produce different outcomes.
Ticket prices and practical questions
The question that most often comes to mind is tickets. As of October 2026, official ticket prices for the 2027 Turkish GP have not been announced; the TOSFED president has made a statement regarding the price range, but prices have not yet been announced, and this remains an open topic of debate. Official sales are said to take place through F1's official ticket store, and warnings against counterfeit tickets have been issued in organizing circles. What makes this different from before is that with the spread of digital sales, the risk of counterfeits on the secondary market has also grown; purchasing through the official channel is always the safest route for events of this scale.
The picture behind the return and the future projection
It is also being discussed that Istanbul Park's return to the calendar is no coincidence. The uncertainties in the construction process of the new circuit planned for the Madrid GP in Spain opened a gap in the calendar for Istanbul, and this gap brought the circuit onto the calendar with a five-year agreement. Calendars in motorsport are not fixed; when one organization's door closes, you have to reach for the next one. This time Türkiye found that door and is trying to make the most of the five-season period it has in hand by deepening it with support series.
A look toward 2027 is no longer a dream; the program has taken shape, Istanbul is written into the F2 and F3 calendars, and the circuit modernization continues. The real work begins after the first race weekend: as the grandstands fill up, as young drivers develop themselves in this environment, and as title races spill over into Istanbul, the five-season window can turn into a lasting motorsport infrastructure. Otherwise, well, it could all just be a lovely weekend, a passing visit. What gets done starting from October 2027 will determine the difference.
