Chery's fully renewed Tiggo 7 was introduced to the world at the brand's own night event held in the city of Wuhu in China's Anhui province on the evening of October 21, 2026. That same night, TIGGOX7, the first member of the TIGGOX series, also took the stage. On this page, we look at the new generation's launch, the hybrid and petrol options, the cabin equipment, and its competitive position in the United Kingdom.

Brand Night Held in Wuhu: How Did the Launch Unfold?
The way Chinese manufacturers showcase their new models to the world has changed considerably in recent years. While waiting for the Shanghai Motor Show used to be enough, brands now set up their own events, take invitees to their production facilities, and spread the launch over a week-long program. Chery is a fine example of this approach: the premiere of the new Tiggo 7 took place at the Brand Night held on the evening of October 21, as part of the Chery International User Summit, organized in Wuhu between October 19-23 and built around the theme "Eco-Tech For Our Life."
The event's theme was set as "Together. For Family," and the opening featured the stories of families from Ecuador, Poland, and the United Kingdom. This is no coincidence: Chery is clearly positioning the new Tiggo 7 as a family-oriented product, building its presentation on comfortable space, perceived quality, and comprehensive safety. While the company's Deputy CEO Guibing Zhang spoke on stage, Edwin van der Sar and Peter Crouch from the world of football also attended the event as brand partners.
The night was not limited to a single model. TIGGOX7, the first representative of the TIGGOX series, was also unveiled for the first time; this model arrives with a positioning that combines urban use with capability across different road conditions. Immediately before the launch, on October 20, the Chery Global Innovation Conference was also held in Wuhu under the theme "Change." This calendar also shows that the Summit should not be read as a single vehicle launch: the brand positions itself around a global user community and announces that it has reached more than 4.55 million users worldwide.
Which Engine Options Does the New Chery Tiggo 7 Come With?

The official and detailed technical specification list of the model has not yet been shared on launch night; therefore, the clear picture of the powertrains currently comes from the Tiggo 7 lineup already on sale. The current lineup progresses along two main axes: plug-in hybrid "Super Hybrid" versions and petrol versions.
Super Hybrid: 1.5 Turbo Plug-in Hybrid
On the hybrid side, the work is based on a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Operating with a front-wheel-drive layout and a single-speed automatic transmission, this system produces 150 kW (204 PS) of power and 310 Nm of torque. On the battery side, a 18.3 kWh capacity pack and 40 kW DC fast charging stand out; for electric range, a figure of approximately 93 km is cited.
For the version marked as CSH on Chery's international page, the figures are defined slightly differently: 90 km of pure electric range, fast charging support, and a combined range exceeding 1200 km. The difference here stems from measurement methods and market-based equipment; both values should be read as different definitions of the same product. The version in question also offers V2L, i.e. the function of supplying electricity from the vehicle to external devices, and the model is reported to have received a five-star rating in global safety tests.
Petrol Option and Consumption Values
For those who prefer to stay outside the hybrid realm, the base option in the UK market is a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 147 hp; while some markets feature a 1.5-liter turbo petrol unit. This difference can be explained by market strategy: for example, in New Zealand the internal combustion version has been launched with a unit derived from the 1.5 turbo engine in the hybrid versions. On the consumption side, a wide range of 1.4 to 6.9 L/100 km is cited for the petrol and PHEV versions; the reason for this width is the dramatic drop in consumption of the plug-in hybrid depending on charging habits. On the maintenance side, a service interval of 15,000 km or 12 months is a notable advantage.
What's in the Cabin: Comfort Equipment and Premium Details
The full equipment list for the new generation's cabin was not detailed at the launch night; nevertheless, the current model's equipment level is instructive in showing where Chery plays in this class. Heated and ventilated front seats, 50W wireless phone charging on the passenger side, and an electrically adjustable driver's seat appear to be standard across all versions; at the top equipment level, the passenger seat is also electrically adjustable. It is not yet clear whether features seen in higher models of the Tiggo family, such as massaging seats and a dual wireless charging pad, will officially carry over to the new-generation Tiggo 7.
Chery's official launch language is built around the headings of "smart and spacious cockpit," "ergonomic comfort," and "family-oriented safety." As part of the Summit, an extreme crash test demonstration was also staged with the TIGGO 7 CSH; since this was a presentation arranged by the manufacturer itself, it should not be read as an independent test result. Nevertheless, the fact that safety was placed at the center of the launch reveals the buyer profile the model is targeting.
Price in the United Kingdom and Position Against the Kia Sportage and MG HS
There is no official statement yet on the new generation's pricing; therefore, the current model's UK price list serves as a solid reference point. The Tiggo 7 currently starts from £24,995 and reaches £32,995 in top trim levels; the Super Hybrid comes with a price tag of £29,995. This naturally raises the expectation that the all-new generation will also be kept in a similar price band; but this is not certain information, just a reasonable reading.
| Version | Powertrain | UK Price |
|---|---|---|
| Tiggo 7 petrol | 1.6 liter, 147 hp | From £24,995 |
| Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid | 1.5T plug-in hybrid, 204 PS | From £29,995 |
| Tiggo 7 top trim | Including electric passenger seat | £32,995 |
On the competitor side, the picture is interesting. In the United Kingdom, the model is compared with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage and Nissan in the family SUV segment. Chery's price advantage is decisive here: The point Auto Express raises is striking - the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid uses the same PHEV system as the Jaecoo 7 under its own roof, but sells for £29,995 against the Jaecoo 7's £35,165 price. On the Australian side, the comparison is drawn along the MG HS, Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson axis. In a comparison in the Malaysian market, the Tiggo 7 offers a longer warranty while the MG HS is more powerful: 1,498 cc and 139 hp for the Tiggo unit versus 1,490 cc and 160 hp for the HS engine. So the equation revolves around equipment-and-time warranty versus raw performance.
The Tiggo 7's Place in the Europe Strategy
Reading this presentation merely as a model refresh would be incomplete. At the Chery Brand International Summit in April 2026, Chery announced its "For Family" brand promise and its medium-to-long-term plan covering 2026–2030: to add one million new global family users within 2026 and to reach a total of 10 million family users by 2030. On top of this line, 13 major new models are foreseen in the next two years, and between 2026–2027 a complete product matrix will be completed with petrol, mild-hybrid, hybrid and fully electric powertrain lines.
The key figure for Europe is this: The launch of TIGGO models in Germany is planned for the first half of 2027. This needs to be read with some perspective. Chery Group has been China's number one passenger car exporter uninterrupted for 23 years; its global cumulative sales exceeded 20 million as of July 2026, and 2025 exports were 1.344 million units. New energy vehicle sales grew by 642 percent last year, and their share within the total surpassed 20 percent. A manufacturer speaking with this scale entering Europe with a family SUV, moreover keeping its price tag clearly below German-established rivals, will be one of the most closely watched developments in the C-SUV segment over the next two years.
Conclusion: What Does the New Generation Tiggo 7 Tell Us?
The premiere of the new Tiggo 7 says more about the brand's direction than about the model itself. With more than thirty years of production experience, Chery is now moving beyond its price advantage and trying to win over family users through comfort, safety and hybrid range. On the hybrid side, an electric range exceeding 90 km and a combined range of over 1200 km cover most of daily driving on plug power, and offer the formula of continuing on gasoline on long journeys at the price band the European buyer is looking for. Only when the official technical details and pricing of the new generation become clear will we be able to see the real course of the comparison with the Kia Sportage and MG HS. Until then, the picture at hand is clear enough: Chery is coming to Europe seriously.
