Togg and Şişecam Shake Hands: Smart Roof Coming to the T10F

Şişecam has developed a smart panoramic glass roof with regionally dimming capability based on PDLC technology for Togg's fastback model T10F . This is the company's first smart glass project implemented for an automotive manufacturer; thanks to the liquid crystal layer inside the glass, the desired section of the roof can be dimmed or made transparent at any desired moment. Below, we cover how this system works, what it offers the driver, and what this collaboration between two Turkish industrial organizations means in terms of domestic component supply.
Highlights
- Şişecam's first OEM-level smart glass project, developed for the T10F's panoramic roof.
- PDLC technology allows regions of the roof to be dimmed individually; the classic sliding curtain may no longer be needed.
- Control can be done via the vehicle's digital screens or the voice command assistant ; the ECU was also developed by Şişecam.
- The T10F offers up to 623 km of range and 4.1 seconds of 0–100 km/h acceleration in the Dual Motor version.
- Final details in series production, pricing, and the equipment package have not yet been announced.
The Şişecam and Togg Partnership: Two Giants Meet in Automotive for the First Time
The first handshake on the automotive side, at this scale, between two established names of Turkish industry carries a meaning beyond the technological dimension of the news. Şişecam has been immersed in materials science for years across a broad spectrum extending from glass to chemicals; Togg stands at the center of the ecosystem with the vehicles it produces in Gemlik. In this collaboration, Şişecam states that it has brought materials science, electronics, vehicle integration, and homologation processes together under a single roof. In other words, the work goes beyond supplying a glass panel: electronics and software are also built into the product.
Another point the company emphasizes is that the competencies gained in this project will form the infrastructure for future next-generation smart glass solutions. This is the kind of sentence an experienced reader will immediately understand: today's single project is the seed of tomorrow's product family. From Şişecam's perspective, this is the first step in the transition from glass manufacturer to system supplier.
How Does the PDLC Glass Roof Work?

PDLC is the abbreviation for "Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal." Technically, the work operates through the liquid crystals placed between two glass layers. When no electricity is applied, these crystals are in a scattered, randomly arranged state; they refract light and the glass takes on a frosted or smoked appearance. When current is applied, the crystals align in the same direction and the glass becomes transparent; when the current is cut off, the roof darkens again. In other words, the glass itself does the curtain's job.
It is stated that the system does not consume continuous electricity for switching between transparency and dimming; this is a detail thought out for the driver of an electric vehicle who is concerned about range. The system also includes an electronic control unit placed in the roof, i.e. an ECU communicates with the vehicle's other systems through it. It is reported that control will be possible via the vehicle's digital screens or a voice command assistant; however, the final form of the control interface in series production has not yet become clear.
Zonal Dimming: Is a Curtain Really Unnecessary?
The distinctive feature of this system is that dimming can be applied not to the entire roof but to its zones individually. The front seat side can remain open while the rear section is dimmed; in other words, those in front can watch the sky while those in the back stay in the shade. The curtain of a classic sunroof did exactly this job - but mechanically, with a sliding system and a fabric. PDLC solves the same function with the arrangement of crystals inside the glass and can eliminate the need for a curtain.
In the past, such smart dimming glass was mostly the privilege of upper-segment models. In recent years, however, especially Chinese brands have begun using this system extensively; across the industry, PDLC provides comfort, privacy, heat insulation and energy efficiency in vehicles. In this context, the technology itself is not considered new; the real news is that it has been implemented in a Turkish automobile, from glass to ECU, by a domestic supplier.
T10F: The Vehicle the Smart Roof Will Ride On
The T10F is a battery electric fastback produced at the Gemlik Technology Campus since 2025 and formerly known as the T10S. In the hardware catalog dated June 2026, the "seamless panoramic glass roof" is already listed as optional equipment; this roof is expected to be offered with Şişecam's smart dimming technology. Togg's official page also shows the panoramic glass roof and four-seat interior in the T10F.
The vehicle can be roughly summarized as follows:
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Range (WLTP) | Up to 623 km |
| 20-80% charging time | 26.5 minutes (180 kW DC) |
| 0-100 km/h (Dual Motor) | 4.1 seconds |
| Digital instrument cluster | 12.3 inches |
| Multimedia display | 29 inches horizontal |
| Climate control display | 8 inches |
This three-screen architecture in the cabin also prepares suitable ground for controlling the smart roof via the display or by voice. In other words, the roof is not a standalone innovation; it is positioned as a natural part of the vehicle's digital cabin concept.
Price and Equipment: What Is Still Unknown
In the September 2026 price list, the T10F starts from 1,884,980 TL; while the T10X starts from 1,909,048 TL. These prices are at the same level as June 2026, meaning there has been no movement on the pricing side in recent months. On the options side, the Technology and Comfort Package V1 is listed at 40,000 TL, and the Winter Package V2 and Smart Assist Package V2 at 30,000 TL.
It has not yet been announced which equipment package the smart roof will be offered with and at what price. Also, to be honest, one point should be noted: this development was reported via the Şişecam announcement; there is no official statement from Togg yet, and it is unclear whether the mass production decision has been finalized. The final details of the mass production version are expected to become clear in the coming period. In other words, the picture in this article is, as of today, a summary of what is clearly known and reasonably expected; it is not a finalized product announcement.
Market Context: The Value of Local Components in a Shrinking Market
The market environment in which this development is being read is as meaningful as the news itself. In the January-September 2026 period, car sales declined by 15.45% falling to 627,977 units, while the total market fell by 13.39% declining to 803,465 units. In June 2026, the total market stood at 105,041 units and cars at 83,978 units. It is noted that in this picture electric cars stand out; there is a segment growing its share of a shrinking pie.
The figures on the Togg side also fit this picture. The brand's cumulative sales volume had reached approximately 95,000 units as of the first quarter of 2026, and the company made TL 1.3 billion in profit in the first quarter. Production targets are ambitious: management plans to exceed 60 thousand units for 2026; according to Chairman of the Board Fuat Tosyalı, 60 thousand units will be produced in 2026 and 100 thousand units in 2027. On the export front, a target of 5,000 vehicles to Europe has been announced by the end of 2026; the initial markets are Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
What Does This Mean for the Local Supply Chain?
A local supplier developing glass, electronics, and integration together for a local car is a remarkable example in terms of keeping value added in the country. There is a fact well known to those who have long been in this industry: a vehicle's most expensive components often come from abroad, and that value added flows into other economies. Here, however, both the party doing the assembly and the party developing a critical comfort component are from the same country. Moreover, the competencies gained could later open the door to smart glass solutions for different models and manufacturers as well - meaning Şişecam appears to be positioning this project not only for Togg but also as a potential export item.
There is also the matter of scale. Such a technology reaching a C-segment local car, and via a local supplier at that, also shows how quickly technology trickles down from the top. Equipment once seen in the premium segment finding its place in mass-market models today is the familiar cycle of the automotive world; but this cycle being supported by a local supplier is a sign of having gained a new player on the stage.
Conclusion: Is the Smart Roof a Beginning?
The Şişecam-Togg collaboration is not a development to be read merely as a panoramic roof news item. On one side is a realistic picture in which the final details, price, and equipment package for mass production remain uncertain; on the other is a supplier that has implemented its first smart glass project at the OEM level and gained expertise ranging from glass to ECU. In a shrinking market, a manufacturer that reports profitability and raises its production target appears to have chosen the path of differentiation through such comfort innovations. Time will tell whether the sunshade becomes a thing of the past; but it is already possible to say that this first major automotive partnership between two Turkish industrial giants has opened the door to similar collaborations in the coming period.
