When did the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV go on sale in Türkiye, and which versions are coming?
The premiere schedule is based on a carefully planned launch strategy. Mercedes-Benz Türkiye, as part of the brand's 140th anniversary celebrations, announced that the model would be introduced live on the evening of October 17, 2026; the official press release was published the same day. Three days later, on October 20, orders opened in Europe for the entry-level GT 53. This rapid transition shows that the brand did not want to leave a long waiting period between the unveiling and sales.
The version strategy is progressing gradually. For now, only the GT 53 can be purchased; the more powerful GT 55 and GT 63 versions are planned to go on sale in spring 2027. So those waiting for the 1,169-horsepower flagship will need to be patient a few more months. This can be read as a deliberate sequencing to verify the overall system quality with the first deliveries: the entry version goes first, and the technically most complex three-motor version later.
The model has the distinction of being the first large SUV developed from scratch within Mercedes-Benz itself. Its foundation is the AMG.EA high-performance electric architecture, on which the recently unveiled AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is also built. For someone who has been following this industry for more than three decades, this distinction is not insignificant: until now, AMG has been the side that added its own engineering to existing platforms; now, for the first time, it is laying the foundation itself.
Performance figures: How powerful are the GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63?
The power hierarchy of the three versions clearly shows how AMG has built its performance ladder in the electric era as well. The GT 53 has one synchronous motor on each the front and rear axle; a two-speed transmission is engaged on the rear axle. This setup produces 400 kW (544 hp) of power. The GT 55 reaches 600 kW (816 hp) of power and 1,860 Nm of torque. At the top is the GT 63, which comes with three axial-flux motors: with its 860 kW (1,169 hp) of power, it completes 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, completing 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds; with the Driver Package, top speed is 270 km/h.
We noticed that the top model's power output was reported with varying figures ranging from 1,150 to 1,156 hp in some outlets after the launch. Such minor discrepancies usually stem from horsepower being calculated with different conversion factors; the manufacturer's official bulletin takes 860 kW, i.e. 1,169 hp, as the basis. While engine power used to be measured with a single test bench, nowadays even converting kW to hp can become a matter of debate - a small but meaningful example of the industry's changing face.
| Version | Power | Standout figure | Sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| GT 53 | 400 kW (544 hp) | WLTP consumption 18.8-21.1 kWh/100 km | From October 20, 2026 |
| GT 55 | 600 kW (816 hp) | 1,860 Nm of torque | Spring 2027 |
| GT 63 | 860 kW (1,169 hp) | 0-100 km/h in 2.5 s; max. 270 km/h | Spring 2027 |
On the consumption side, the CO2 class is stated as A; the GT 63 and GT 55 are given figures of 23.8-21.2 kWh/100 km on the WLTP cycle, while the GT 53 is given 21.1-18.8 kWh/100 km. Most of these figures will vary depending on driving style, weather conditions, and the use of aerodynamic aids; besides, consumption has always been a secondary priority in a performance-focused AMG. Still, for an SUV weighing over 2 tons, these figures demonstrate the efficiency advantage of the electric architecture.
800-volt architecture and charging: how is 80 percent in 12 minutes possible?

The GT SUV's most critical technical achievement is on the battery side. Two options are offered: 106 kWh 18-module package and 128 kWh 22-module package. Both are based on an 800-volt architecture and use directly cooled cylindrical cells inspired by Formula 1; energy density is above 298 Wh/kg. Those who used the first electric vehicles many years ago will remember: back then, 50 kW charging at the 400-volt standard was considered fast. The difference between that and the figures we are discussing today is the clearest proof of how far the technology has come.
Charging capability varies by version. The 106 kWh package 600 kW of DC charging power and delivers 380 km of range in a 10-minute charge. The 128 kWh package takes this figure to 710 kW; adding 450 km of range in 10 minutes, while the 10 to 80 percent charging time drops to as low as 12 minutes . At a 400 kW station, the 106 kWh package charges in 14 minutes and the 128 kWh package in 16 minutes. On the AC side, maximum power is limited to 11 kW; meaning home charging is still an overnight job.
- With the 22-module battery, up to 700 km of WLTP range.
- Automatic switching to 400 volts is supported; compatibility is ensured across different charging infrastructures.
- CCS2, GB/T, CHAdeMO, CCS1, and NACS standards are supported.
The support of different charging standards across such a wide spectrum is a sign that a global product is no longer designed for a single market. On the other hand, the reality must also be stated: fully utilizing the 710 kW charging power depends on the prevalence of stations capable of delivering that power. In Türkiye, this infrastructure is still at a very early stage; in practice, most users will charge at stations in the 200-350 kW range, and charging times will extend accordingly.
Chassis and technology: How is the AMG character preserved on an electric axle?
The biggest challenge for performance brands in electrification is character. Increasing horsepower is relatively easy; conveying the driving feel that makes AMG an AMG is hard. This is why Mercedes-Benz has invested heavily in the chassis side. Offered as standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55, the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ active suspension works together with three-stage air springs. Active rear-axle steering provides up to 6 degrees of turning; this is a vital detail for the maneuverability of a vehicle of this size.
On the aerodynamics side, the AEROKINETICS active roof spoilers engage above 150 km/h; Airpanel system lowers drag by opening cooling air only when needed. For the sound experience, the AMGFORCE Sport+ program simulates the V8 and six-cylinder sound based on more than a hundred measurements taken from reference vehicles like the GT R. Purists may see this as an artificial compensation; but I believe thirty-year-old habits will not be erased overnight - any vehicle that preserves the feeling during the transition period will find its place in the market more easily.
Inside, the new MBUX system based on MB.OS dominates. ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini AI agents are integrated; AMG TRACK PACE records more than 80 data points 10 times per second. At the front, there is a 14-inch multimedia screen, a 10.2-inch instrument panel, and a separate 14-inch screen for the passenger. The optional Burmester 4D sound system, SKY CONTROL panoramic glass roof and more than 60 MANUFAKTUR paint options take personalization to the next level.
Has the Türkiye price been announced, how is it positioned in the market?
The short answer to the question is, for now, no: no official TL price has been announced for the GT SUV, and the model's SUV page in the Türkiye price list still appears to be pending. As a reference, the starting price in Germany is 113,050 euros, meaning approximately 6.3 million TL. Although estimates of around 6.5 million TL circulate on social media, these are not official figures. The current Mercedes-Benz Türkiye list includes only the internal combustion GT Coupé family on the AMG side: the 2-door GT Coupé has a base price of 17,347,000 TL, the GT 63 4MATIC+ Performance is 29,794,000 TL, and the GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ is 34,529,000 TL. It is not hard to predict where the electric SUV will fit within this framework; its lower limits will exceed 6 million.
The market context matters too. Türkiye's electric car market reached a remarkable size with 81,331 sales in the first half of 2026; Togg T10X and T10F led the first quarter of the first half. On the hybrid side, 27,065 sales in March 2026 secured a 33.9% market share. Around 69 new models are expected to enter the market within the year, with electric and hybrid SUVs in the spotlight. So the GT SUV arrives precisely when the segment is heating up - but it is not a product playing the absolute volume game.
On the competition side, the luxury high-performance electric SUV segment is still taking shape. Social media comparisons mention the roughly 1,150-horsepower Porsche Cayenne Turbo version; however, this is more of an enthusiast's own pairing than a verified official benchmark. Realistically speaking, the GT SUV's true rivals will be the other German performance electrics entering the same segment in the coming months.
Assessment: the first page of AMG's electric exam
The GT SUV is the second product and first major SUV of Mercedes-Benz's AMG.EA platform based on an 800-volt architecture. The numbers - 1,169 horsepower, 2.5 seconds, 700 kilometers of range, 12-minute charging - are technically above expectations. What is most anticipated is how this package will translate onto the roads and into sales figures. In Türkiye, the stance of the GT 53 first will become clearer with the arrival of the GT 55 and GT 63 in spring 2027. A note from an old observer: the market for performance SUVs has never expanded this much since the sedan era; AMG's first electric SUV is raising the curtain on precisely this expanding stage.
