Chery unveiled its first fully electric model at the Paris Motor Show, which began on October 12, 2026 CHERY Q, making its European debut and announced its goal of being present in 27 European markets with 1,143 sales and service points by 2027. The TIGGO 9 CSH , one of five models the brand brought to the show, made headlines with the results of engineering tests conducted on its battery. Chery, active in the Turkish market since 2023, deserves to have this move evaluated alongside the tense picture of the local market.
Highlights
- CHERY Q: 41 kWh battery, 121 hp, NEDC range of 400 km, 4.19 m length
- 2027 target: 27 markets, 1,143 sales and service points, 300 thousand families served
- January-August 2026: 234 thousand 234 thousand sales in 24 European markets, an annual increase of 193% increase
- The TIGGO 9 CSH battery passed salt water immersion and crash tests according to the results announced by Chery
- A Türkiye plan for the CHERY Q and TIGGO 4 1.5T has not yet been announced
CHERY Q's European Premiere: What Does It Offer?
Chery's stand in Paris featured the TIGGO 4, TIGGO 7, TIGGO 8, and TIGGO 9, alongside the brand's first fully electric model, the CHERY Q. This small electric vehicle, positioned in the A0 segment, was presented to the public for the first time in the EU market. The show was open to visitors October 13-18; Chery's stand was in Hall 4, at number A91.
The technical specifications can be summarized as follows: 41 kWh battery and an 121 hp electric motor; a range of 400 km according to the NEDC measurement. The vehicle is 4.19 meters long; 375 liters of trunk space is complemented by an added 70-liter front trunk. Thanks to its V2L feature, the vehicle can power external devices.
A calculation note is necessary here: NEDC is one of the most optimistic measurement methods among today's standards. Chery also did not officially share the model's price and range figures in Paris; the 400 km value is a figure announced by the brand and is expected to be lower in real driving conditions. For someone who has followed these launch periods for over three decades, this is a familiar scene: a motor show premiere is not where a technical specification is finalized, but where positioning is declared.
The positioning is already clear: small families, first-time buyers, and young drivers are cited as the target audience; it is presented with the "second car" scenario for families. This picture should be read within the context of the highly competitive small electric vehicle segment in Europe.
27 Markets by 2027: Chery's European Plan
At the show, the Europe-specific "For EU. For Family" approach was introduced for the first time, and the brand's medium-to-long-term plan for the EU market was laid on the table. The plan's milestones are as follows: entry into the EU market in 2025; by the end of 2026, including France, 20 EU markets, 687 sales and service points and service to approximately 100 thousand families; in 2027, 27 markets, 1,143 points and 300 thousand families.
The strategy's scope is not limited to presenting models: alongside PHEV, HEV and BEV options, local R&D, production infrastructure and an after-sales service network are also part of the plan. The family-oriented approach rests on three pillars: "Space. For Family", "Safety. For Family" and "Technology. For Family". The new "Chery Family Care" program also aims to strengthen after-sales support - it is clear that the truly challenging part of the long-term goals is knowingly the after-sales network.
There was also other news presented at the fair: the TIGGO 4 HEV combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor; the combined system output is 224 hp, length 4.32 m, two 12.3-inch screens and 430 liters of trunk. The TIGGO 4 1.5T is launching for the first time in Europe in France; the TIGGO 7 hybrid and plug-in hybrid, and the TIGGO 8 in its plug-in hybrid version, were exhibited. There are also posts mentioning a model from OMODA making its European debut at the fair; however, since the model name was reported inconsistently across sources, we cannot present this item as verified information.
TIGGO 9 CSH Battery Tests: What Do They Mean?

At the "Black Sea Safety Test" event held in Constanta, Romania, on September 22-24, 2026, the TIGGO 9 CSH was put through two scenarios, and the event was watched by more than 150 media representatives from 16 European countries.
- Salt water test: The vehicle's 34.46 kWh high-voltage battery was submerged for 24 hours in a 3.5% salt water solution. No corrosion, swelling or leakage was detected; the sealing and insulation criteria were reported as met.
- Impact/underside strike test: The vehicle was driven over a 250 mm high obstacle at 14-15 km/h . No structural damage or cracks were seen in the battery housing, and no electrolyte leakage occurred.
It is essential to read the status of these results correctly: the tests are engineering tests organized by Chery itself, with the results shared by the company; on their own, they do not constitute an independent crash or safety assessment. For an independent measure, one must look at the Euro NCAP records: in its December 2025 assessment, the TIGGO 4 scored 79% in adult protection, 85% in child protection, 78% for pedestrians and 80% in safety assist; the TIGGO 8's assessment page has also been updated. Keeping manufacturer tests and independent tests in separate categories is the healthiest way to read this business.
Chery in Numbers: Rising in Europe, Record Globally
Behind Chery's European targets lies a strong growth record: in the January-August period of 2026, 234 thousand units were sold in 24 European markets and a year-on-year increase of 193% was reported. More than 114 thousand of these sales came from new energy vehicles. Globally, exports in January-September 2026 increased by 1,551,178 units , up 65.6% ; thus, the exports for all of 2025 were surpassed within nine months. According to industry data, in global automotive sales 4.4% with a 9th place in the world; in new energy vehicles 5.5% share, among the top five groups.
For those who remember when Chinese manufacturers could do little more than put products on display at trade shows, these figures are a concrete indicator of a real change; now the same brands are talking about building sales networks in Europe and committing to service standards. Of course, it should also be noted that the figures are based on the manufacturer's own statements.
What Does This Mean for the Turkish Market?
Chery Otomobil Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. was founded in September 2022 and on March 21, 2023 entered the Turkish market with the TIGGO 8 PRO and TIGGO 7 PRO. Today it operates with 54 authorized dealers in 7 regions. The standout item on the price list is the TIGGO 7 Prestige 4x2 1.6 TGDI 145 hp 7DCT version at 2,672,000 TL with the 4x4 version at 2,720,000 TL (as of October 2026).
However, the Turkish picture is not a one-way growth story. In January 2026, Chery reported D-SUV segment leadership with the New TIGGO 8 and raised its market share to 3.70% in a given period. On the other hand, in the first half of 2026, sales of Chinese-origin brands in Türkiye fell 39.6%, dropping to 28,602 units, and market share slipped to 5.1%. In other words, the ambitious European goal in Paris and the fluctuating sales line in Türkiye are living at the same time; both need to be seen together.
When will the CHERY Q come to Türkiye?
For now, the answer is not clear: no Türkiye plan has been announced for the CHERY Q and TIGGO 4 1.5T. The 27-market target in Europe does not directly include Türkiye; therefore the small EV's path to Türkiye depends on the brand's product planning in the local market.
Will a factory be built in Türkiye?
Despite the claims circulating on social media about "a $1 billion investment in Türkiye and annual production of 200,000 electric vehicles," Chery announced that it has no production plans in Türkiye and is looking for an investment partner. The matter remains unclear in the press; in this article, we will only cover what is known.
There is one more stop on the agenda: Chery International User Summit 2026, October 19-24, will be held in the city of Wuhu, China, with the participation of the OMODA | JAECOO, iCAUR and AiMOGA brands, under the theme "Together. For Family." On the commercial vehicle front, the electric light commercial vehicle brand DELIVAN and the heavy commercial vehicle brand C&C are planned to come to Europe in 2027.
Conclusion: Between the Promise in Paris and the Reality in Türkiye
Chery's message in Paris is clear: the image of a brand intent on entering the entry-level segment with the electric CHERY Q and spreading across Europe by 2027. European sales figures have supported this claim so far. On the Türkiye side, both the contraction of Chinese-origin brands across the overall market and the uncertainty of the factory debate have been left to the local picture off the show floor. For the reader, the practical measure is simple: wait for range and pricing data to be officially shared, and for independent safety test results to become clear. The rest is promotional flavor - and in this business, one should rely on the numbers, not the flavor.
